K-pop agency Starship apologizes for security assault on fan

Starship Entertainment, a South Korean label, issued an apology for the excessive security measures taken against a fan of the boy group Cravity at an airport in June. The fan had claimed that they were physically assaulted and mocked by the group's security guard at Gimpo International Airport, leading to a concussion and the intention to file a lawsuit against the security firm. In response, the entertainment agency terminated their contract with the security firm and promised to establish new security protocols to ensure the safety of both fans and artists. Similarly, South Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok also faced criticism for his security team's aggressive actions against fans and travelers at Incheon Airport, leading to public anger. In response to the incident, the CEO of Incheon International Airport Corp. acknowledged partial responsibility for the inappropriate security measures and pledged to implement new behavioral protocols for private security firms, as well as increase penalties for misconduct. These incidents reflect the ongoing issue of excessive security measures for celebrities at South Korean airports, prompting a call for improved oversight and stricter regulations.
