Kentucky governor meets with S. Korean battery firms to woo investment


Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear visited South Korea to engage with officials from major electric vehicle (EV) battery and materials companies, aiming to attract additional investment to the US state. During his trip, he met with executives from SK On Co., a car battery maker, and Lotte Chemical Corp., which produces EV battery materials. Additionally, he planned to hold meetings with officials from LG Chem Ltd., the majority stakeholder in LG Energy Solution Ltd., and other Korean companies. Beshear expressed his intention to strengthen existing business partnerships and cultivate new relationships that would bring employment opportunities to Kentucky. He highlighted the construction of an EV battery plant by SK On in Kentucky, in collaboration with Ford Motor Co., scheduled to commence operations in 2025. Similarly, Lotte Chemical established a joint venture with a local firm in Kentucky to build an aluminum foil plant by the first half of 2025. The governor's visit to South Korea underscores his efforts to foster economic growth and create job opportunities in Kentucky through collaboration with international EV industry leaders.
