Korean Air has announced a plan to purchase up to 50 new widebody aircraft from Boeing, with an estimated deal price of around $23 billion. The national flag carrier signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, expressing its intention to procure 20 units of the 777-9 and 20 units of the 787-10, with an option for 10 units of the largest 787 Dreamliner. This move is part of Korean Air's strategic objective to expand and upgrade its fleet, aiming to enhance passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions. The addition of the new Boeing 777-9 and 787-10 aircraft is seen as a significant milestone for Korean Air's long-term commitment to sustainable aviation. These new airplanes are expected to support the airline's sustainability goals and continued growth, particularly for long-haul routes to North America and Europe. With the new fleets, Korean Air plans to have a total of 203 next-generation, eco-friendly aircraft in its fleet by 2034, including 33 A350s, 50 A321neos, and 20 Boeing 787-9s.
