LG Energy Solution has introduced an AI-based cell design solution to its employees, aiming to revolutionize the battery cell design process. The company has developed an artificial intelligence solution that drastically reduces the time required for battery cell design from two weeks to just one day. This innovation utilizes generative AI techniques to swiftly generate battery cell designs based on specific input requirements from clients. By leveraging a proprietary battery design algorithm and data from approximately 100,000 design cases, the AI model ensures optimal cell composition to meet performance factors such as capacity, energy density, and resistance. Traditionally, client-specified demands necessitate multiple design drafts and performance predictions, prolonging the process. However, the new AI solution streamlines and simplifies these tasks, completing the comprehensive process in a single day, including the verification of the AI-generated design models. Notably, the AI model is expected to maintain consistent design quality and speed, independent of the designer's experience. The company anticipates this development to yield substantial cost savings, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce its competitive edge in the market. Furthermore, the AI model is slated to be integrated into the company's in-house cell development system by October, with plans to extend its application to battery module and pack design in the future.
