Prominent N. Korean defector named head of unification council


In a recent announcement, it was revealed that Tae Yong-ho, a well-known North Korean defector, has been appointed as the new head of the presidential advisory council on unification. This decision was made by President Yoon Suk Yeol, who selected Tae to serve as the secretary general for the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council. Notably, Tae is the first North Korean defector to hold a deputy ministerial post since the council's establishment in 1980. Tae's background includes serving as a former North Korean deputy ambassador to Britain before defecting to South Korea in 2016. Despite a previous role as a lawmaker in Seoul, he was unable to secure a second term in the April parliamentary elections.
