Seoul shares open lower on Wall Street losses


South Korean shares began trading lower on Wednesday, following a decline in Wall Street overnight. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) dropped 12.28 points, or 0.44 percent, to 2,762.01 in the initial 15 minutes of trading. This was in line with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which closed at 40,358.09, down 57.35 points, and the Nasdaq, which slipped 10.22 points to 17,997.35. In Seoul, major companies experienced mixed trading, with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix facing losses, while LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDS also saw declines. However, Amorepacific and Korean Air saw gains, with Amorepacific surging 5.37 percent and Korean Air advancing 0.95 percent. Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors experienced losses, while the local currency was trading at 1,387.30 won against the U.S. dollar, down 1.10 won from the previous session's close.
