Talks between Samsung Electronics and striking workers end without agreement

Samsung Electronics and its largest labor union held their ninth round of wage talks, but were unable to reach an agreement, according to sources. The talks, which lasted nearly eight hours, were the first since the union declared a full-scale strike on July 8. Samsung Electronics offered a 5.1 percent wage increase, while the union is demanding a 5.6 percent raise, a guaranteed day off on the union's founding day, and compensation for economic losses due to the strike. Despite the strike lasting over two weeks, Samsung Electronics reported minimal impact on production, but concerns over potential weakening of competitiveness in the semiconductor industry have been raised.
