In the first half of this year, Tesla's mid-size SUV Model Y became the top-selling imported car in Korea, surpassing other popular brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. With 10,041 units sold, the Model Y experienced significant growth compared to the previous year, largely attributed to price cuts made by Tesla in February and April. These cuts were in response to changes in government subsidies for electric vehicles equipped with China-made batteries. As a result, Tesla secured the position of the third-largest foreign carmaker in Korea during this period. The success of the Model Y contributed to Tesla's total sales of 17,380 units, placing the company behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the Korean imported car market. This marked the first time that Tesla ranked third in sales in a market traditionally dominated by the so-called German Big 4 – BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volkswagen.
