[Today’s K-pop] NewJeans adds Japan debut single to million-seller list

NewJeans' first single in Japan sold over 1 million copies, marking their fifth consecutive million-selling album, as announced by their agency Ador on Thursday. The single "Supernatural" was released on June 21 and quickly achieved this milestone, following the success of their previous four albums. It topped Oricon's daily single ranking and maintained the position for two additional days, while both of its tracks, "Supernatural" and "Right Now," are currently enjoying their second week on Billboard's Global charts. Despite being primarily targeted at their Japanese audience, the songs are also performing well on major music charts domestically. Last month, the group made a remarkable stage debut at Tokyo Dome, drawing approximately 90,000 fans over two days, setting a record for a non-native artist. Enhypen's upcoming second full album, "Romance: Untold," has already garnered over 2.2 million pre-orders, as revealed by their agency Belift Lab, in collaboration with album distributor CJ ENM. This figure sets a new record for the seven-member group, surpassing the success of their previous album, "Orange Blood," which sold over 2 million copies. The album is set to be released on Friday, accompanied by a showcase in Seoul. Additionally, the group recently unveiled the second teaser video for their lead track, "XO Only If You Say Yes," showcasing a lighter and more cheerful side of the album, in contrast to the previous mysterious trailer. Treasure's second full-length album, "Reboot," has been certified double platinum in Japan, with 500,000 shipments, according to their label YG Entertainment. The album not only topped Oricon's daily and weekly album rankings but also saw its main track, "Bona Bona," reaching the top of the iTunes Top Songs chart in 20 regions. This achievement marks the band's first million-seller. Following the success of their second Asia tour, the 10-member group returned from Japan after a sold-out fan meeting event in Kanagawa and is set to embark on a second fan meeting tour in the country, with plans for an encore concert in Seoul next month. Boynextdoor's debut single in Japan secured the No. 2 spot on Oricon's daily single ranking, with "And" selling over 100,000 copies on its release day, nearly doubling the sales record set by the band's second EP, "How?," in April. The single album includes four tracks, featuring the Japanese-language song "Good Day" and the main track "Earth, Wind and Fire (Japanese Ver.)." In anticipation of their official debut in Japan, the six-member group graced the covers of four fashion magazines and is scheduled to perform at Summer Sonic 2024 next month.
