Yoon replaces 3 minister-level officials in partial reshuffle

President Yoon Suk Yeol conducted his first Cabinet reshuffle since the general election in April, making changes to three ministerial positions, including the head of the state broadcasting watchdog. Lee Jin-sook, a former journalist at public broadcaster MBC and the nation's first female war correspondent, was appointed as the new Korea Communications Commission chairperson. Chief of staff Chung Jin-suk highlighted Lee's experience and competence, expressing confidence in her ability to restore public trust in the media and normalize the management of the KCC. This move closely followed the resignation of former KCC Chairman Kim Hong-il, who stepped down to prevent an impeachment motion from the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea. In addition to Lee's appointment, Kim Byoung-hwan, the first vice minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was nominated as the new chief of the Financial Services Commission, with a focus on addressing concerns related to the country's real estate market. Kim Wan-sup, previously the second vice finance minister, was also named as the minister of environment in the reshuffle. Furthermore, seven vice-ministerial-level positions, including the heads of the forest service and state museum, were replaced. All ministerial-level nominees will undergo parliamentary hearings, but President Yoon has the authority to proceed with the appointments regardless of the results.
