Yoon vows incentives to companies hiring NK defectors

President Yoon Suk Yeol marked North Korean Defectors' Day in a ceremony at Cheong Wa Dae, where he pledged to support North Korean defectors in South Korea. He promised financial incentives for South Korean companies hiring defectors and plans to address their unemployment struggles. Additionally, tax credits and subsidies may be extended to private-sector companies hiring North Korean defectors, and efforts will be made to increase their employment in government and public-sector roles. President Yoon also expressed the intention to increase the state's cash allowance for incoming North Korean defectors and expand child care services for female defectors. President Yoon emphasized the importance of stable employment in helping North Korean defectors reach their full potential and vowed to prevent their repatriation to North Korea. These commitments follow his proposal earlier in the year to designate July 14 as North Korean Defectors' Day, in commemoration of the implementation of the North Korean Defectors Protection And Settlement Support Act.
