EXO Chanyeol makes solo debut with 1st EP ‘Black Out’

Chanyeol, a member of the K-pop group EXO under SM Entertainment, made his solo debut with the release of his first mini-album "Black Out" on Wednesday. After 12 years with EXO, Chanyeol expressed his happiness at being able to showcase something new as a solo artist at a press conference on the same day. The album is a fusion of diverse genres and showcases Chanyeol's ability to evoke strong emotions through his vocals. It consists of six tracks, with the title song "Black Out" being a pop-rock track characterized by a fast tempo, minimal acoustic guitar, and lyrical synth melodies. Chanyeol explained that the lyrics use the concept of a 'blackout' to symbolize the aftermath of a breakup, conveying the emotional turmoil and sense of disorder that follows. Chanyeol also shared that he wrote the lyrics for two of the Side-B tracks, "I'm on Your Side Too" and "Clover," drawing inspiration from personal experiences and precious memories. He emphasized the significance of sharing his own story through this solo album. Additionally, Chanyeol is gearing up for a tour titled "City-scape," which will take him to 10 cities in Asia, starting with Seoul on Sep. 6-7.
