Govt. to ease greenbelt restrictions in Seoul

The South Korean government has announced a plan to address the housing shortage in Seoul and surrounding areas by providing more than 80,000 housing units over the next six years. This involves lifting restrictions on developing greenbelt areas in the capital for the first time in 12 years, with a focus on stabilizing the housing market amid escalating apartment prices. The plan includes supplying over 427,000 homes and new residential land in Seoul, easing restrictions on greenbelt zones, and adding over 20,000 units to public housing sites in the metropolitan area. In addition to increasing housing supply, the government aims to swiftly provide more than 110,000 non-apartment homes through new construction for purchase and rentals. The overall goal is to significantly expand the number of non-apartment purchases and rentals, with a focus on accelerating reconstruction and redevelopment to ensure the construction of 176,000 units over the next six years. This multifaceted approach seeks to meet housing demand, manage liquidity, and address the pressing housing needs in the region.
