Hana Financial, FSS join forces to raise alarm over youth gambling


Hana Financial Group has announced plans to invest 10 billion won over the next three years to raise awareness about the risks of illegal gambling among young people. The initiative, in collaboration with the Korea Center on Gambling Problems, also involves support from public institutions such as the Financial Supervisory Service, National Gambling Control Commission, National Police Agency, and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. At the launch event, FSS Gov. Lee Bok-hyun emphasized the importance of preventing illegal gambling to ensure responsible money management among youth, expressing hope that the joint effort can contribute to a positive future for young people. Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo pledged to implement a comprehensive approach to protect young individuals from online gambling addiction, including educational campaigns and counseling services for students. Professional esports player Lee Sang-hyeok, also known as "Faker," has been appointed as the ambassador for the campaign, delivering a message urging youngsters to avoid illegal gambling. As part of the project, Hana Financial and the Korea Center on Gambling Problems will develop various content such as musicals, webtoons, and animations to highlight the dangers of illegal gambling. Additionally, they will organize talk concerts, busking performances, and training for around 1,000 instructors specializing in preventing youth gambling. Furthermore, 90 local schools will be designated as exemplary cases of gambling prevention, aiming to educate young people about the legal consequences of illegal gambling. At a panel discussion, a student shared a realization about the illegality and potential legal implications of online gambling, highlighting the importance of awareness and prevention efforts.
