Hybrid vehicles report fewest fire incidents: data


According to statistics from the National Fire Agency, hybrid vehicles have had the fewest fire incidents over the past five years in Korea. With 131 reported fire cases among 1.54 million registered hybrid cars, the likelihood of a hybrid vehicle catching fire was estimated at 0.002 percent. Despite a significant increase in the number of registered hybrid vehicles, the number of fire incidents did not see a substantial rise, with 23 fires in 2019, 21 in 2021, and 31 in 2023. In comparison, electric vehicles (EVs) had a fire incident likelihood of 0.013 percent, with the number of fire reports increasing in line with the growing volume of EV registrations. Diesel cars reported a higher number of fire incidents as their registrations decreased, while gasoline-powered vehicles maintained a steady level of fire incidents.
