Samsung, labor union likely to resume wage talks in early October

The labor union of Samsung Electronics may resume negotiations with the company in early October to discuss a potential wage increase and other related matters. The National Samsung Electronics Union, which represents 31,000 workers, had engaged in a full-scale strike for about a month but returned to work after facing challenges in reaching an agreement with the company. The union has been seeking a 5.6 percent basic pay raise, a guaranteed day off on the union's founding day, and compensation for economic losses due to the strike. In response, Samsung Electronics has proposed a 5.1 percent wage increase and emphasized its commitment to fostering a positive relationship with the labor union. It was also mentioned that the NSEU lost its status representing Samsung Electronics' other labor union earlier this month, but it may regain this status for wage negotiations through a tie with the other labor union after the necessary processes are completed, which is expected to take about a month. These developments indicate ongoing efforts to address the differences between Samsung Electronics and its labor union regarding wage and other related issues.
