Samsung SDI, GM to jointly build EV factory in US


Samsung SDI Co., a South Korean battery manufacturer, has officially signed an agreement with global automaker General Motors Co. to collaborate on the production of electric vehicle (EV) batteries in Indiana, USA. The partnership involves a joint investment of US$3.5 billion to construct a plant with an initial annual production capacity of 36 gigawatt-hours, slated to commence operations in 2027. Samsung SDI CEO Choi Yoon-ho expressed the company's commitment to establishing a leading battery production facility in the US EV market through their strong alliance with GM, the top automaker in North America. In a bid to spearhead the US electric vehicle market, Samsung SDI Co. has solidified a formal arrangement with General Motors Co. to co-invest US$3.5 billion in building an Indiana-based plant with an initial capacity of 36 gigawatt-hours annually, set to commence operations in 2027. CEO Choi Yoon-ho emphasized the company's dedication to establishing a premier battery production facility in the US EV market, leveraging their robust partnership with GM, the foremost automaker in North America.
