Yoon pledges overhaul of athlete environment

President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, held a dinner at Shilla Seoul for South Korean Olympians who competed in the Paris Games. At the event, President Yoon pledged to implement reforms aimed at providing fair opportunities for young athletes and improving their training environment. He emphasized the need to eliminate outdated practices and constraints to ensure equal chances for athletes in all sports and to enhance the training environment for young athletes. The dinner was attended by approximately 270 individuals, including athletes, family members, coaches, sports association members, and other staff. President Yoon's commitment to overhauling the system comes after South Korea's successful performance in Paris, where the delegation won 13 gold medals, nine silvers, and 10 bronzes, surpassing their goal of winning five gold medals. Additionally, the event was attended by badminton women's single champion An Se-young, whose surprising revelation in Paris prompted a probe by the Sports Ministry into the alleged flaws in the management of athletes by the South Korean badminton association.
