Yoon visits military headquarters on last day of summer vacation

President Yoon Suk Yeol visited the Gyeryongdae military headquarters in Gyeryong, about 160 kilometers south of Seoul, to inspect the security posture and review preparations for the upcoming joint military drills between South Korea and the United States. This visit took place on the last day of his five-day summer vacation. During the visit, Yoon met with top commanders of the Army, Air Force, and Navy at a wartime command bunker and received a briefing on the preparations for the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, scheduled for later this month. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong readiness posture against increasing North Korean threats and highlighted the link between security and economic prosperity. This marked President Yoon's third visit to the military headquarters since assuming office in May 2022. He underscored the significance of a robust security posture in defending freedom and prosperity, stating that peace cannot be safeguarded by relying on the goodwill of the enemy. Yoon's office provided a photo of him speaking during the visit to the command post at Gyeryongdae military headquarters.
