BMW opens brand's 1st charging hub lounge in Korea

BMW Group Korea has unveiled its latest addition to the electric vehicle landscape in Seoul with the opening of the BMW Charging Hub Lounge. This new facility features six 200-kilowatt-hour chargers and an indoor lounge, complete with a cafe, aiming to provide a comfortable and convenient charging experience for all electric vehicle drivers, regardless of the brand. The location, near Seoul Station, marks BMW Group's first integrated brand facility globally and is part of the company's efforts to support Korea's electric vehicle transformation. In response to concerns about EV safety, the charging station has been equipped with advanced fire safety measures, including three layers of sprinklers, real-time thermal CCTV monitoring, and specially designed fire extinguishers for lithium-ion batteries. Looking ahead, plans are in place to introduce an underbody cooling fire extinguisher, a first for charging stations in South Korea, to enhance safety measures further. The facility operates in partnership with GS Group and LG Group, with GS ChargEV managing charging services and Parnas Hotel overseeing the lounge services. Additionally, the chargers, developed by LG Electronics, offer a Plug & Charge service for seamless certification and payment processes. The BMW Charging Hub Lounge is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the chargers accessible at all times, contributing to BMW Group Korea's ongoing expansion of the domestic EV charging infrastructure, which currently stands at 1,600 chargers, with plans for an additional 500 by the end of the year.
