Governor of North Korean province in US to ‘promote Yoon’s vision for unifying Korea’

Ji Seong-ho, the governor of North Hamgyong Province in North Korea, has traveled to the United States to engage in discussions regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol's strategy for Korean reunification with various US government officials, senators, and think tanks. During his visit, Ji is scheduled to meet with Republican Senator Bill Hagerty, Ambassador Julie Turner, who serves as a special envoy on North Korean human rights, and shadow Senator Paul Strauss from the Democratic Party. Additionally, Ji plans to visit the International Republican Institute and the Brookings Institution to further explore the vision of the Yoon administration for a free and unified Korea, emphasizing values such as open elections and democratic governance. As an advocate for peaceful reunification and support for North Korean defectors, Ji views it as his responsibility as governor to promote the South Korean government's initiatives for bridging the gap between the two Koreas. Yoon's doctrine on Korean reunification, introduced on Liberation Day in August, focuses on fostering change within North Korea by spreading awareness about freedom and democracy among its people. Ji's trip to the US, which began on Sunday and is set to conclude on Friday, aims to strengthen ties between South Korea and the US while advancing the shared goal of a united Korea based on democratic principles.
