Industry, science ministers discuss economic cooperation with Czech envoy

South Korea's industry and science ministers held discussions with a senior Czech official to explore opportunities for collaboration, following a recent nuclear power plant agreement between the two countries. Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun met with Czech National Security Adviser Tomas Pojar, who was visiting Seoul as a special envoy of the prime minister, to express interest in strengthening ties, particularly in the nuclear energy industry. The Czech Republic had previously selected a South Korean consortium, led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, as the preferred bidder for a nuclear power plant project valued at approximately 24 trillion won ($18 billion). Ahn emphasized South Korea's desire to establish a comprehensive ecosystem for the nuclear industry through the joint project, encompassing not only construction but also the training of experts and the advancement of technologies. The meeting also covered other potential areas of cooperation, such as trade, investment, industry, and energy. Additionally, the Czech envoy engaged in separate discussions with Science Minister Yoo Sang-im to explore opportunities for collaboration in the ICT sector. Pojar's visit to Seoul aimed to finalize details with South Korean officials ahead of President Yoon Suk Yeol's upcoming visit to the Czech Republic later this month.
