Kia joins forces with Geotab, 42dot to streamline PBV fleet management

Kia has partnered with Canadian fleet data provider Geotab and Hyundai Motor Group's software arm 42dot to develop an advanced fleet management system for its new line of customizable purpose-built vehicles. The collaboration, formalized in a memorandum of understanding signed at Geotab's headquarters in Canada, is a significant step in creating solutions for businesses that manage large vehicle fleets. The PV5 Basic, unveiled at CES 2024 and scheduled for release in 2025, features an advanced wheelchair-accessible lift and modular interior designed for personalized ride-hailing services. These commercial electric vehicles are designed to be adaptable for various business uses, such as ride-hailing services, delivery, or mobile offices, and Kia is developing a system to facilitate the efficient operation of large fleets using these vehicles. Kia's new fleet management system (FMS) will utilize cloud-based technology to offer real-time data, allowing businesses to remotely and efficiently oversee their fleets without the need for additional hardware. Geotab, a global leader in connected vehicle technology and telematics, will provide the data infrastructure and advanced analytics to power Kia's FMS, leveraging its experience in handling large volumes of vehicle data to enable real-time tracking of vehicles without additional hardware. The FMS will also include driver-assist applications integrated into the vehicles' dashboards to provide drivers with helpful information without distraction and promote safer driving habits. Additionally, 42dot, Hyundai Motor Group's global software center, is responsible for developing the core software that powers Kia's purpose-built vehicles and will ensure seamless integration of the FMS with Kia's vehicles. This collaboration aims to deliver powerful insights that help businesses manage their fleets more efficiently, providing innovative, customized mobility solutions to meet the demands of business customers when Kia launches its first dedicated purpose-built vehicle model next year.
