Korean firms tap growth of nuclear power, defense in Slovakia


South Korean and Slovakian business leaders convened in Seoul to enhance industrial collaboration, with a focus on areas like nuclear power plants and defense industries. This meeting, organized by the Federation of Korean Industries during Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Korea, brought together representatives from both countries to explore opportunities for Korean companies to expand their presence in Slovakia. Slovak officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Denisa Sakova and State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec, emphasized Slovakia's appeal for long-term investments and highlighted the country's potential for value-added businesses due to its natural and tourism resources. The gathering saw discussions on boosting trade relations between Korea and Slovakia, with a particular interest in sectors such as electronics, automobiles, nuclear power plants, defense industries, and high-tech fields. Korean businesses expressed keenness to participate in Slovakia's plans for a new nuclear reactor and military modernization project, while also suggesting infrastructure improvements to support new investments in the automobile industry. The event underscored the evolving partnership between Korea and the Visegrad Four countries in Europe, highlighting opportunities for collaboration beyond manufacturing to include areas like nuclear power, weapons systems development, and regional security.
