KT and Microsoft to develop AI models for Korea


South Korean telecommunications company KT has entered into a significant five-year partnership with Microsoft to collaborate on developing customized artificial intelligence solutions for Korea. The agreement, signed at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, involves cooperation in AI, cloud technologies, and information technology. KT's CEO, Kim Young-Shub, emphasized the partnership's potential to enhance Korea's AI capabilities and drive innovation across various sectors, aiming to position the company as a leader in the AICT field. The partnership, valued at several trillion won, will focus on areas such as creating tailored AI solutions for Korea, establishing Korean sovereign cloud solutions, advancing AI R&D capabilities, and transforming KT into an AICT company. Leveraging Microsoft technologies like GPT-4o and Phi language models, the collaboration will enable the development of AI agents for customer service and industry-specific solutions. Additionally, KT plans to migrate IT workloads to Microsoft Azure, deploy Microsoft 365 and GitHub Copilot for employees, and establish an AI-specialized service company to facilitate AI adoption in the region.
