North Korea unveiling uranium enrichment site a US election-conscious move: NIS

South Korea's intelligence agency suspects that North Korea's recent publicizing of leader Kim Jong-un's visit to a previously undisclosed uranium enrichment facility was a strategic move influenced by the upcoming US presidential election, according to Rep. Lee Seong-kweon. The spy agency noted that such visits related to North Korea's nuclear weapons program are typically kept secret, indicating that the timing of this disclosure may have been politically motivated. Additionally, the National Intelligence Service of South Korea believes that North Korea has the capability to expand its nuclear arsenal significantly and may engage in military provocations such as missile launches in the lead-up to the US election. The agency also mentioned the possibility of North Korea conducting a seventh nuclear test, although it is more likely to occur after the election. Furthermore, the spy agency is closely monitoring North Korea's relationships with Russia and China, noting potential developments in weapon shipments, satellite technology cooperation, and constitutional changes in relation to the Korean Peninsula.
