Presidential office rejects possibility of Yoon's solo meeting with PPP leader this week

The presidential office announced that a separate consultation is needed to consider President Yoon Suk Yeol's potential solo meeting with Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the ruling People Power Party (PPP). Han had requested this meeting in light of Yoon's upcoming dinner meeting with the PPP leadership to discuss the government's medical reform plan scheduled for Tuesday. Initially planned for late August, the dinner was postponed after Han publicly called for a delay in the planned increase in medical school admissions quota for 2026, which diverged from Yoon's position. While the dinner meeting aims to support the new leadership of the PPP, the possibility of Yoon meeting Han separately requires further deliberation, according to an official from the presidential office. Han, who has been a close associate of Yoon from their time as prosecutors, highlighted the importance of a private meeting due to undisclosed critical issues. The discussions are crucial, especially regarding the medical school quota hike plan, as both the government and the ruling party seek to establish a consultative body involving multiple stakeholders to address the medical reform plan, including the potential increase in annual medical school admissions.
