Presidential security official arrested for alleged fraud in presidential office relocation

A senior official from the Presidential Security Service has been arrested for allegedly gaining personal profits unlawfully while overseeing the relocation of the presidential office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The official, identified as Jeong, was taken into custody along with a construction broker named Kim by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office. This action followed the Board of Audit and Inspection's request for an investigation into potential cost inflation in the installation of bulletproof glass for the new presidential office. The relocation of the presidential office to a former defense headquarters building in Yongsan district was part of President Yoon Suk Yeol's commitment to enhance public engagement. Prosecutors suspect that Jeong granted the bulletproof glass construction project to Kim, who allegedly inflated the construction cost quotation and pocketed a significant amount of money. Jeong is accused of swindling funds and receiving or being promised bribes from Kim. These developments have raised concerns about corruption and financial misconduct within the presidential security service and the construction industry.
