Quad leaders rebuke North Korean missile threats, reaffirm goal of denuclearization


Leaders from the US, Japan, Australia, and India came together to denounce North Korea's recent ballistic missile launches and nuclear ambitions, emphasizing their shared commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The joint statement issued at the conclusion of the summit condemned North Korea's actions as a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and reiterated the importance of implementing these resolutions fully. The Quad summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in Delaware, highlighted the ongoing security concerns in the Indo-Pacific region. Meanwhile, North Korea's foreign minister, Choe Sun-hui, criticized the US and its allies for creating security threats in the Korean Peninsula during her visit to Russia. She called for a multipolar world order to counter the dominance of the US and its allies, while also expressing support for Russia's stance on the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un conveyed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his congratulatory message on the country's 76th founding anniversary, underscoring the diplomatic ties between North Korea and China.
