Seoul shares open tad higher on Wall Street gains

Seoul stocks opened slightly higher on Friday, with chip shares leading the gains following a positive performance on Wall Street. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index increased by 0.04 percent in the first 15 minutes of trading, driven by the strong showing of semiconductor companies like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. In the US, the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq composite all posted gains, fueled by the better-than-expected earnings report from Micron Technology which boosted AI-related stocks. While semiconductor and financial shares in Seoul enjoyed gains, battery and automotive companies faced losses in early trading. LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor saw declines, while Kookmin Financial and Shinhan Financial recorded positive movements in the market. The local currency also strengthened against the US dollar, trading at 1,318 won, representing a 9.2 won increase from the previous session.
