SK hynix applies CXL optimization solution to Linux

SK hynix announced the launch of its heterogeneous memory software development kit, designed to optimize the operation of Compute Express Link (CXL) technology on Linux. CXL is a cutting-edge interface that enhances computing speed and capacity by efficiently connecting the CPU, GPU, and memory in high-performance systems. By integrating CXL into existing memory modules, capacity can be increased by more than tenfold. The HMSDK, SK hynix's proprietary software, aims to improve the performance of CXL and is seen as a key technology for AI memory solutions alongside high bandwidth memory. SK hynix's software kit boosts memory bandwidth by over 30% and system performance by more than 12% without requiring modifications to existing applications. The company anticipates that its technology will become the industry standard for Linux developers using CXL memory, thereby strengthening global collaborations in the realm of next-generation memory solutions. As the semiconductor industry gears up for the commercialization of CXL with the upcoming release of server CPUs adopting the CXL 2.0 standard, SK hynix is preparing to launch CXL 2.0 memory modules with capacities ranging from 96 to 128 gigabytes, with mass production slated for later this year.
