Yoon to visit Pragyue next week to forge 'nuclear energy alliance'

President Yoon Suk Yeol is scheduled to visit the Czech Republic next week to establish a "nuclear energy alliance" and pave the way for South Korean firms to secure a nuclear power plant construction bid worth approximately $17.9 billion. This visit marks the first by a South Korean leader to the Czech Republic in nearly a decade. The primary objective of the visit is to demonstrate South Korea's strong commitment to collaborating with the Czech Republic and to employ persuasive diplomatic efforts to finalize the nuclear power deal. During his visit, President Yoon will engage in various activities including meetings with Czech President Petr Pavel and Prime Minister Petr Fiala, attending a joint business forum, visiting a nuclear power plant, and discussing economic and social policies. The visit is also expected to facilitate the establishment of a nuclear energy alliance between South Korea and the United States. However, the presidential office did not provide further details regarding the significance of this alliance in the context of the ongoing legal disputes involving Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power and US-based Westinghouse Electric. President Yoon's visit is strategically aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and advancing South Korean interests in the Czech Republic, particularly in the field of nuclear energy cooperation.
