Yoon's popularity hits 2-year low amid medical standoff

President Yoon Suk Yeol's job approval rating has hit a record low due to an ongoing conflict between the medical community and the government, which has eroded public confidence in his efforts to reform the healthcare system. His approval rating dropped to 29.6 percent, the lowest in about two years. This decline was attributed to the public's lack of support for the government's medical reform initiative, particularly as the shortage of medical staff in emergency rooms due to doctors' protests has become a pressing issue. The opposition party has accused the Yoon administration of driving the national medical system to the brink of collapse with its aggressive medical reform policies. Reports of patients in critical conditions being unable to secure hospital admission have intensified public scrutiny. Despite mounting opposition and concerns, the administration remains steadfast in its pursuit of healthcare reform, emphasizing the need to address the shortage of medical staff as a reason to push forward with the reform plan. Additionally, there are growing political tensions, with the Democratic Party accusing the Yoon administration of potentially preparing to declare martial law, while the opposition party dismisses these claims as irresponsible and lacking evidence.
