Han Kang's achievement marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first Asian female author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy praised her "intense poetic prose" that addresses historical traumas and illustrates the fragility of human life. This win is Korea's second Nobel Prize, following the Peace Prize awarded to late President Kim Dae-jung in 2000, and the first for an Asian author since China's Mo Yan in 2012.
