Daewoo Engineering & Construction Chairman Jung Won-ju met with former Indonesian President Joko Widodo to explore new business ventures in Indonesia, as reported on Tuesday.
The meeting occurred at the presidential palace, Istana Merdeka, in Jakarta on the last day of Widodo's term. Jung expressed gratitude for Widodo's presidency, which facilitated steady economic growth in Indonesia through development policies focused on social infrastructure construction.
Jung highlighted Daewoo E&C's commitment to participating in large-scale urban development projects in Indonesia, including the submerged tunnel for the new capital, Nusantara, as well as investments in energy sectors such as LNG and renewable energy. He referenced the company's successful track record in Indonesia and its achievements in Vietnam.
In response, Widodo welcomed Jung's proposals and requested Daewoo E&C's involvement in future hydropower projects. He also invited the company to participate in renewable energy expansion and investments in Nusantara, sharing insights about policy incentives to attract foreign investment.
Jung's visit to Indonesia also included discussions with Erick Thohir, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, and representatives from leading local companies, including the Pulau Indah Group, regarding Daewoo E&C's expansion in the region.
A Daewoo E&C official stated, "We are exploring various infrastructure project opportunities linked to real estate development and the relocation of the capital in Indonesia, which has the largest construction market among the 10 ASEAN countries. Daewoo E&C will continue to work closely with local governments and partners to expand our new business ventures there."
Additionally, on Monday, Jung met with Tran Sy Thanh, the mayor of Hanoi, in Seoul. Tran is visiting Korea to seek advanced urban development benchmarks and measures to enhance trade.
During their meeting, Jung and Thanh reviewed Daewoo E&C's ongoing new city project in Hanoi, known as Star Lake City. The company's engagements in Vietnam also include urban development projects in Dong Nai and Thai Binh provinces, along with initiatives to expand infrastructure projects related to power generation and industrial complexes.

대우건설 관계자는 정 회장의 인도네시아 방문에 대해 "대규모 건설 시장을 가진 동남아시아 10개국 중 인도네시아의 수도 이전과 부동산 개발과 관련된 다양한 인프라 프로젝트 기회를 모색하고 있다"고 전하며, "대우건설은 현지 정부 및 파트너들과 긴밀히 협력하여 새로운 사업 기회를 확대할 것"이라고 말했다.
또한 월요일 정 회장은 하노이 시장 찐 시 탄과 서울에서 만났다. 탄 시장은 선진 도시 개발 기준 및 무역 증진 조치를 모색하기 위해 한국을 방문했으며, 금요일 현지 경제 인사들과의 회의를 위해 도착했다.
회의 중 정 회장과 탄 시장은 대우건설의 하노이 스타 레이크 시티 신규 도시 프로젝트에 대해 검토했다. 대우건설의 베트남 사업은 동나이 및 타이빙 성의 도시 개발 프로젝트와 전력 생산 및 산업 단지 관련 인프라 프로젝트 확장 노력도 포함되어 있다.
