During a Supreme Council meeting, a senior spokesperson for the party stated that the leadership has reached a consensus to proceed with the impeachment process. Discussions regarding the specific steps and timing will be held with the floor leadership.
This announcement comes after the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office revealed its nonindictment decision, concluding an investigation that lasted four and a half years. The investigation focused on allegations that the first lady's stock trading accounts were implicated in a scheme involving Deutsch Motors Inc., a BMW dealer, between 2009 and 2012.
Prosecutors determined that the first lady was unaware that her accounts were being used for manipulation.
