First lady’s Dior bag scandal to be at center of Assembly audit

During the annual National Assembly audit, the focus is expected to once again shift to the allegations surrounding President Yoon Suk Yeol's wife, Kim Keon Hee, particularly regarding the controversy over her receiving a Dior bag from a pastor in late 2022. The Democratic Party of Korea has emphasized that they will prioritize investigating the "Dior bag scandal" and other accusations involving the first lady during the audit process. The opposition party aims to pass a bill for a special counsel to delve into whether the first lady engaged in any misconduct in exchange for the luxury gift. Despite Seoul prosecutors previously clearing both the first lady and the pastor of criminal charges related to the Dior bag incident, the opposition is persisting in their efforts to scrutinize Kim Keon Hee's actions. The Democratic Party intends to use the audit as an opportunity to hold President Yoon accountable for his administration's alleged wrongdoings and to shed light on suspicions surrounding the first lady, including accusations of stock price manipulation and falsifying credentials for employment. The ruling People Power Party has criticized the opposition's focus on the first lady, suggesting it is a diversion from addressing legal issues surrounding their own leader, Rep. Lee Jae-myung, who is currently facing multiple criminal trials.
