The finance ministry announced on Wednesday that it will extend the tax cut on fuel for an additional two months, with some adjustments, in response to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, South Korea will implement a 15 percent discount on gasoline consumption and a 23 percent reduction on diesel and liquefied petroleum gas. This adjustment comes as the previous discounts of 20 percent on gasoline and 30 percent on diesel and liquefied petroleum gas were set to expire at the end of the month.
The ministry stated that the decision to reduce the discount rates was made after considering recent trends in energy prices and inflation, as well as their impact on national finances.
The updated tax cut measures will take effect on November 1 and will remain in place until the end of the year.
This fuel tax cut scheme was first implemented in 2021 and has been extended periodically, with adjustments made in line with global energy price fluctuations.
South Korea relies heavily on imports for its energy needs, and rising global oil prices have led to increased inflationary pressures within the country.

정부는 2021년부터 연료 세금 감면 제도를 시행해 왔으며, 이후 글로벌 에너지 가격에 맞춰 감면율을 조정해왔다.
