[Herald Interview] Sleep tech startup Munice seeks bigger footing in US

South Korean startup Munice has developed Nightly, an app that utilizes monaural beats to induce relaxation and enhance sleep quality. CEO Kwon Seo-hyun explains that the app works through brainwave entrainment, guiding users into a state of calm by synchronizing their brain's electrical oscillations with the app's rhythmic sounds. Kwon's personal struggle with insomnia sparked her interest in developing technology-based solutions for sleep issues, leading to the creation of Nightly. Since its launch in April 2022, Nightly has gained popularity in South Korea, ranking as the top-grossing app in the health and fitness category on the App Store. The app's monthly subscription fee is affordable, and Munice has plans to expand into the US market by focusing on localization efforts, user experience enhancements, and social media engagement. With a vision to make quality sleep accessible to everyone globally, Munice has secured significant funding from a variety of investors, positioning them for further growth and expansion beyond their current markets.
