[Herald Interview] Toonsquare aims to open new era for webtoon creation with AI

The global webcomic market has experienced significant growth fueled by increased digital content consumption during the pandemic. South Korea, known for its $1.1 billion webtoon market, has emerged as a key player in this rapidly expanding industry. Toonsquare, a Seoul-based AI startup founded by Lee Ho-young, is leveraging Korea's market data and intellectual property to expand its reach globally. The company is localizing its services in countries like the US, France, Japan, and Indonesia, where the demand for high-quality webtoon content is strong. Toonsquare, founded in 2017 and transitioning to a standalone corporation in 2019, aims to support webcomic creators by offering AI-driven creative tools like Tooning Editor, Tooning Magic, Tooning Board, and Tooning GPT. By integrating AI technology into their services, Toonsquare has not only improved efficiency in webcomic creation but has also found success in the education technology sector, partnering with schools to provide a safer learning environment and educational resources on generative AI. As the company continues to expand globally, CEO Lee Ho-young emphasizes the importance of localization and collaboration with international talents who share their vision of enhancing creativity through AI tools.
