KT chief vows to secure AI leadership

Telecom carriers are positioned to enhance their involvement in the artificial intelligence era by offering a wide range of services, as emphasized by KT CEO Kim Young-shub during a mobile conference in Seoul. Kim stressed the importance of collaborating with technology competitors to elevate service quality, pointing out that AI-based services have already permeated various sectors such as telecommunications, healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, and logistics. He highlighted the necessity of communication networks supporting ultrawideband and ultralow latency to fully deploy AI-driven services like personalized mobile offerings, autonomous vehicles, and robot-operated factories, urging telecom companies to lead the transition towards advanced networks like 6G. Kim's remarks underscored the significance of partnerships with major tech firms, startups, and industry players for telecom companies to realize innovative solutions. He mentioned KT's strategic alliance with Microsoft to develop tailored AI solutions and establish a tech innovation center, emphasizing the need for companies to safeguard their data, solutions, and infrastructure. Kim envisioned a future where 4G, 5G, and 6G networks coexist, each optimized for specific applications, and called for a fundamental infrastructure overhaul in telecommunication firms to fully harness AI's transformative potential, advocating for a flexible, AI-friendly network architecture for enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Samsung Electronics also aims to introduce a software-defined open network to facilitate telcos' success in the evolving landscape.
