New orchid hybrid in Singapore named after Yoon, his wife

During a state visit to Singapore, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee were honored with a new orchid hybrid named "Dendrobium Yoon Suk Yeol Kim Keon Hee." This recognition took place at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where the orchid was introduced. According to the presidential office, the Dendrobium variety features semi-arching inflorescences that can reach up to 50 centimeters long, showcasing up to 18 well-arranged flowers that bloom year-round in rose pink, with deeper candy-pink stripes and subtle white accents. Yoon is the second South Korean leader to have an orchid named in his honor, following his predecessor Moon Jae-in, whose orchid was named in 2018. This tradition, known as "Orchid Diplomacy," has been practiced in Singapore since 1956 to honor visiting heads of state and distinguished guests, including notable figures such as U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
