Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok has stated that South Korea will maintain close communication with global investors to facilitate the country's entry into a significant global government bond index managed by FTSE Russell.
Choi made these remarks during a meeting in New York with representatives from major U.S. investment firms. He highlighted that South Korea's inclusion in the World Government Bond Index (WGBI) signifies global acknowledgment of its efforts to enhance the investment climate.
"Through close communication with global investors, we will make efforts to ensure that previous measures to revamp systems are functioning effectively," Choi noted.
South Korea is set to be added to the WGBI starting November 2025.
Additionally, Choi mentioned that the government will continue implementing the "corporate value-up program," which aims to increase the value of local businesses and address the so-called Korea discount.
The finance minister also informed investors that South Korea, with its advanced semiconductor technologies and related infrastructure, has significant potential to become a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
To support the AI industry while achieving carbon neutrality, South Korea plans to utilize a diversified energy portfolio, including nuclear and hydrogen sources, Choi added.
Addressing the ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing, Choi stated that South Korea has been maintaining effective communication with the United States regarding trade policies that may impact local businesses, such as the Inflation Reduction Act.
He concluded by mentioning that South Korea will seek to resolve issues with China through a focus on mutual benefits.

워싱턴과 베이징 간의 긴장 관계에 대해 언급하며, 최 장관은 한국이 지역 기업에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 무역 정책, 특히 인플레이션 감축법과 관련하여 미국과 효과적인 소통을 유지하고 있다고 밝혔다.
한국은 또한 상호 이익을 추구하며 중국과의 문제를 해결해 나갈 방법을 모색할 것이라고 덧붙였다.
