Seoul shares opened higher on Wednesday, driven by retail buying, although investors expressed caution due to concerns regarding the Federal Reserve's potential rate cuts.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) increased by 3.53 points, or 0.14 percent, reaching 2,574.23 within the first 15 minutes of trading.
In the United States, stocks closed with mixed results overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 0.02 percent to 42,924.89, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose by 0.18 percent to 18,573.13.
In Seoul, large-cap stocks exhibited mixed performance. Market leader Samsung Electronics Co. declined by 0.9 percent, Korean Air Co. fell by 1.7 percent, and Korea Electric Power Corp. decreased by 0.5 percent.
Conversely, among the gainers, Hyundai Motor Co. increased by 1.5 percent, LG Energy Solution Ltd. rose by 1.4 percent, and SK hynix Inc. was up by 1.8 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,380.50 won against the US dollar, reflecting a decrease of 0.4 won from the previous session.

서울 시장에서도 대형주들은 혼합된 성과를 보였다.
시장 지표인 삼성전자 주가는 0.9% 하락했고, 국적 항공사 대한항공은 1.7% 줄어들었으며, 한국전력공사는 0.5% 하락했다.
반면, 현대차는 1.5% 상승했으며, LG에너지솔루션은 1.4% 올랐고, SK hynix는 1.8% 상승했다.
원화는 달러당 1,380.50원으로, 이전 세션보다 0.4원 하락해 거래되고 있다.
