Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains


On Monday, South Korean stocks opened modestly higher, drawing inspiration from previous gains on Wall Street. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) climbed by 15.92 points, or 0.61 percent, reaching 2,612.83 within the first 15 minutes of trading, following a strong performance from the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq last week. In the Seoul market, large-cap stocks experienced mixed results. Samsung Electronics, a leading player, saw a rise of 1.35 percent, while its competitor SK Hynix surged 2.42 percent. Conversely, LG Energy Solution fell by 1.34 percent and Samsung SDI dropped by 3.22 percent. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor increased by 1.01 percent, and Kia Motors rose by 0.40 percent. The South Korean won was trading at 1,353.60 against the US dollar, a decrease of 3.1 won from the prior session.
