South Korean shares opened slightly higher on Friday, influenced by overnight gains on Wall Street.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) rose by 4.09 points, or 0.16 percent, reaching 2,613.39 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.37 percent, closing at 43,239.05, achieving a new high for the second consecutive session due to reports of better-than-expected consumer spending.
The U.S. Department of Commerce indicated that retail sales rose by 0.4 percent in September compared to the previous month, up from a 0.1 percent increase in August and surpassing market expectations of a 0.3 percent rise.
In Seoul, large-cap stocks showed mixed performance.
Market leader and tech giant Samsung Electronics gained 0.5 percent, whereas its competitor in chipmaking, SK hynix, fell by 1.68 percent.
Top battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution decreased by 0.63 percent, while its local rival Samsung SDI saw an increase of 0.3 percent.
Leading automaker Hyundai Motor remained unchanged, while its smaller affiliate Kia Motors experienced a decline of 0.11 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,370.85 won against the U.S. dollar, down 2.25 won from the previous session.
