Seoul shares opened lower on Tuesday as US stocks paused following their longest weekly rally this year.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index decreased by 16.66 points, or 0.6 percent, reaching 2,588.26 within the first 15 minutes of trading.
In the US market, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.8 percent to 42,931.60, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite saw a slight increase of 0.3 percent, closing at 18,540.01.
In Seoul, large-cap stocks exhibited mixed performance. Market leader Samsung Electronics Co. declined by 1 percent, while top carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. dropped by 1.3 percent. Leading battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution Ltd. fell by 2.9 percent, and national flag carrier Korean Air Co. was down by 1.7 percent.
Conversely, among the gainers, state utility Korea Electric Power Corp. rose by 2.6 percent, leading auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis Co. increased by 0.2 percent, and No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix Inc. gained 1.3 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,382.20 won against the dollar, reflecting a decrease of 7 won from the previous session.

반면, 상승세를 보인 주식으로는 한국전력공사가 2.6% 상승했으며, 자동차 부품 제조업체 현대모비스는 0.2% 올랐고, 2위 반도체 제조업체 SK hynix는 1.3% 상승했습니다.
원화는 달러에 대해 1,382.20원에 거래되고 있으며, 이전 거래보다 7원 하락했습니다.
