Unified Korea would be big market for pacific, Eurasia: Yoon

During the 47th Singapore Lecture at Orchard Hotel, President Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized that a unified and peaceful Korean Peninsula could unlock significant economic potential in the Indo-Pacific region. He stated that such a peninsula would act as a vital link between the Pacific, the Korean Peninsula, and Eurasia, fostering growth in sectors like energy, logistics, and tourism. Yoon reiterated his vision of a unified Korea based on democratic principles, which he believes would bring freedom to the 26 million North Koreans currently living under oppressive conditions. Yoon also highlighted that a peaceful Korea would enhance regional stability and contribute to a stronger international non-proliferation regime by eliminating North Korea's nuclear threats. He announced plans to allocate $100 million over the next three years for development projects aimed at promoting democracy in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, Yoon committed to strengthening global efforts for a unified Korea through initiatives like the International Korean Peninsula Forum and the upcoming Indo-Pacific High-Level Forum in December.
