Who is pollster roiling politics with claims of government string-pulling?

Allegations that the first lady, Kim Keon Hee, influenced the candidate nominations of the ruling party ahead of the legislative general election in April have caused a stir in South Korea. The focus of the controversy is on a pollster named Myeong Tae-gyun, who claimed to have provided advice to President Yoon Suk Yeol. Myeong asserted that he had close ties to the presidential couple and was involved in the selection of candidates for the ruling People Power Party's election nominations. Additionally, he disclosed that he had advised President Yoon on political matters and recommended specific personnel appointments, including suggesting the appointment of Choi Jae-hyung as prime minister. Myeong also stated that he played a significant role in consolidating the presidential candidacies of Yoon and his rival Ahn Cheol-soo. Furthermore, there are concerns that Myeong may have had undue influence on national decisions and policies, prompting opposition party lawmakers to call for a thorough investigation. The allegations have sparked comparisons to the infamous Choi Soon-sil scandal, with some lawmakers demanding transparency and accountability from the presidential office regarding the extent of Myeong's involvement in political affairs.
