Yoon-Han meeting to take place next week

President Yoon Suk Yeol's office announced a meeting with ruling People Power Party Chair Han Dong-hoon scheduled for early next week, following the upcoming by-elections. This meeting is significant as it may address ongoing tensions between the two leaders, particularly in light of Han's calls for a reorganization of the presidential office amid allegations of influence-peddling involving first lady Kim Keon Hee. Han emphasized that public misunderstandings regarding Kim's alleged involvement in state affairs could harm public trust in the conservative bloc, asserting that she does not possess the authority to engage in political matters. The backdrop of this meeting includes media speculations about Kim's influence over presidential appointments and party nominations, which have drawn criticism and raised concerns about potential nepotism. Recent revelations about a man named Myung Tae-kyun's interference in the party's nomination process, allegedly linked to Kim, have further fueled controversy, leading to discussions about the possibility of Yoon facing impeachment. Amid these challenges, Yoon's approval ratings have plummeted to an all-time low of 25.8 percent, reflecting growing public dissatisfaction as he returned from a weeklong trip to Southeast Asia.
